here is the second part of the napkins for tobi from zweiundvierzigmeter; part 1 can be found here.
you may have noticed that some of the napkins have small threads or loops sticking out of the fabric or protruding from the edges. i left all these features of the fabric as they are and didn't cut or remove anything. most of these threads will tear off or disappear by themselves over time.
inspiration/ideas/thoughts: a single napkin in red; 42 as a binary number and the three little trees as a symbol for the forest and nature.
inspiration/ideas/thoughts: koji (aspergillus oryzae) under the microscope; the only other napkin apart from the previous one that stands alone and is not designed as a pair:
inspiration/ideas/thoughts: abstract flower; original hem from the end of the bale that i kept intact
inspiration/ideas/thoughts: pattern book of the wolff company from the hard municipal archive - around 1900 there are many patterns consisting of tiny flowers. the patterns come from a similar time as the fabric from which the napkins are made. formstecher are the people who made the pattern rolls or models for the fabric and paper prints - a profession that has since died out. a tribute to (textile) craftsmanship.
inspiration/ideas/thoughts: marigold blossoms from the garden in summer
inspiration/ideas/thoughts: allium flowers
inspiration/ideas/thoughts: moss, algae, planets, bacteria, chlorophyll
inspiration/ideas/thoughts: lichen, moss, algae
it was a pleasure to work on this commission, especially because i had the freedom to follow my working process and my way of finding inspiration. and also because you have so much appreciation for craftsmanship and creativity - thank you for that, tobi!
